Down the Ladder

Inspired by my memories of sailing through the Whitsundays, this piece captures that moment you climb down the ladder at the stern of the boat, slip into the water and look beneath you to discover a whole other world.

Layers of blues and turquoise create the feeling of being suspended in the water, while little fish, shells, snorkels, anchors, crayfish and squid bring the underwater scene to life. Contrasting pops of colour are scattered throughout, capturing the unexpected details you notice when you stop and look a little closer.

A painting inspired by those salty, sun-soaked days out on the water, when the world above and below the surface feel a million miles apart.
